Executive Director

Dr. Walt Thompson has been with After-School All-Stars Atlanta since 1994. Beginning with a summer Inner-City Games program, comprehensive after school programs were launched in 1999 with just one site. Today, there are 23 sites across Atlanta funded by some of the most influential philanthropic foundations. Dr. Thompson is the Georgia State University College of Education & Human Development Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research and holds the title of Regents’ Professor. This year, he was elected President of the American College of Sports Medicine, the largest sports medicine and exercise science professional organization in the world (50,000 professional members and certified fitness professionals). In his spare time, he writes college text books (now around 15) and spends quality time with his four grandchildren.
